Welcome Message from President

I would like to congratulate and thank the Organising Committee in organising our scientific convention - “MyO&G 2022: New Beginnings” - on 12th & 13th March 2022 which will be held virtually. The theme is appropriately chosen to signify the re-beginning of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (COGAMM) activities and the way the fraternity has to move forward following the pandemic!

The COGAMM, for the past year, has persevered and aligned ourselves to the goal of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia to look at forums to stimulate and strengthen postgraduate and sub-specialization training Several new developments in the educational front will have significant impact on the training of specialists in O&G for both the current Masters in O&G and also the parallel pathways. The COGAM is represented in the Conjoint Committee, Masters in O&G together with the Ministry of Health to provide input to curriculum development and assessment. The development of a new National Curriculum for postgraduate education in O&G had been rolled out. This curriculum has been designed and structured so as to fulfill the requirements of both pathways to attain the postgraduate degree after four years of learning and training.

The COGAMM will also strive to ensure the quality of O&G services be of utmost importance. In this area, it will collaborate and also conduct courses for professional development and enhancing the skills of practitioners. Various subcommittees in the COGAMM are working with trainers to develop new strategies that will help learning in this direction.

The COGAMM has been playing an important role to ensure practitioners maintain high ethical standards of care in their clinical practice. This is done through a rigorous process of evaluating the admissions to the National Specialist Register (Medical Council of Malaysia) together with the Ministry of Health.

I would like to end this message by urging all practitioners of O&G, especially all trainers and trainees in the Ministry of Health and the Universities, to join the College if they have yet to do so.
